Placement Testing

Chesapeake College uses ACCUPLACER by College Board for placement testing.

Preparing to take a Placement Test

  1. Visit the Admissions Desk in the Dorchester Building or email admissions@chesapeake.edu to request a testing slip. Admissions will forward the request to the Testing Center. If you are testing in person you do not need an appointment, but see #2 and #3 below. If you are testing online at home, a Testing Center representative will contact you via email and go over the next steps with you.

  2. You do not need an appointment, but you must arrive at the Testing Center during our placement testing hours. Click here to see the current placement testing hours.

  3. Bring government-issued, current (unexpired) identification, such as a driver’s license or passport. A recent high school ID card is also acceptable. It must be a physical card and must contain a photograph of the individual. Please note that a high school ID may ONLY be used for placement testing and not for any other type of test within the Testing Center.

Policies and Procedures

Chesapeake College is committed to your success. To help you begin reaching your goals, the College offers an assessment service, the ACCUPLACER computer-based placement test. This assessment is used to measure your entry-level skills in mathematics, writing, and reading, the results of which allow academic advisors to assist you with your selection of courses.

No student will be denied admission as a result of test scores. However, you are required to complete the assessment testing as a condition of enrollment, and if your test scores indicate a need for skill development, you may be required to complete the appropriate developmental courses.

If you need additional general information, please contact the Office of Student Services by calling: 410-758-1537, or 410-228-4360, ext. 2250. If you have questions specific to testing, call the Testing Center at 410-822-5400, ext. 2344.
