Take your online discussions further with VoiceThread

Updated:  06/28/2017 Traditional threaded discussion forums have been widely used for many years (about 15 in the short life of Internet history).  It's quite possible that you (and your students) are getting tired of using them.  They are asynchronous communication and tend to be impersonal. Enter VoiceThread.

This tool will add pizzazz and spunk to your online discussions.  Discussions are still asynchronous, but once students start commenting on the threads it lends the feeling of an interactive, face-to-face classroom.  This is especially true if you encourage students to step out of their comfort zone and use a webcam to post their comments. It's simple:  you create the VoiceThread with a pdf of a powerpoint, graphics, movies (not YouTube) or anything that can be uploaded.

You make your comments and the students sign in and make their comments. Did I mention you can embed the VoiceThread directly in your course?
